Fireworks up close

So, last night (well, not really – Wednesday night, but I meant to post this yesterday, so …) we went to a family friend’s apartment to watch the fireworks. We were RIDICULOUSLY close – like literally, we were right beside the water. It was amazing. We could even see the ship! Now first we were just talking, but before the fireworks actually start they light up a couple to signal “20 minutes left”, and “10 minutes left” – that kind of thing. The first time that happened, I was absolutely AMAZED at how nice they looked up close – and then BANG! It was LOUD! Louder than I expected, even! Obviously you expect it to be louder than when watching from far away (like from my house balcony, where I usually do) but I didn’t think it would be THAT loud! The interesting thing is even though we were so close there was still a slight delay between the actual firework and the sound. Hmm …

Finally, the fireworks started. They were really good. It was cool because up close we could see all the low ones that we wouldn’t have normally seen. It was pretty cool to watch with the music as well. It was actually very well choreographied (or whatever the verb is). They even played Navras from Juno Reactor! They had a lot of cool effects, like ones that swirled around before disappearing. It was also interesting because normally the big explosions look 2D from far away, but up close they were most definitely 3D. The big high ones were especially impressive up close – they were HUGE, and after a long chain of them everybody started cheering and clapping. It was amazing!

Unfortunately, after, we had a tough time getting back, but I’ll save you that story. Suffice to say that I don’t understand why we didn’t simply call a taxi outside of the apartment. It was pretty tiring, but also amazingly fun. Plus I met some pretty cool people too! I don’t really know if I’ll ever get to watch fireworks like that up close again, but at least I’ve experienced it once now … right?

Anime review – Gosick

So, I’ve been kind of dead. Sorry. So I’ve decided I’m gonna start reviewing things I watch or read now, so I’ll start here on this site … why not, huh? Let’s start with some basics …

Gosick misc. info:

  • Length: 24 episodes
  • Air date: Dec 27, 2010 to Jul 2, 2011
  • Subs: Victorique

  • Story: 6/10
  • Art: 7/10
  • Sound: 6/10
  • Character: 2/10
  • Enjoyment: 2/10
  • Overall: 4/10

First billed to me as a mystery show, I was understandably excited for this. Coupled with legends, logic puzzles, and more, I was filled with high expectations for this anime; I was horribly disappointed with what I got. Generally, mystery shows related with logic would have characters carefully piece the clues together, unraveling the layers of intrigue one by one. Instead, we are given a character who draws conclusions out of thin air, with nothing to support her deductions other than the “Chaos”. Not a good start.

Long time no Post

Hellooo there~

Long time no post. (for me at least :P)I apologize for that, but currently it is my final exams and it’s been difficult to find time to actually post my life. I would have drawn a picture for this, but it’s been done many times. The same picture of a person sitting at a desk with a bunch of papers simply studying (and stressing about it). You’ve seen those and I’ve seen those so I’ll let your imagination figure out how I study.

There are a few updates in my “oh so exciting” life that I thought I could share with you all.
For one I came re-acquainted to one of my favourite bands last week, Hanson. If you don’t know them then you are probably my age or at least born in the 1990s (I was only 2 when they debuted).

These three brothers, Isaac Hanson, Taylor Hanson, and Zac Hanson(from oldest to youngest) created a band called Hanson. Each have great voices however they each also play instruments, Isaac:guitar, Taylor:piano, Zac:percussion. They debuted with and most well-known by the song “mmmbop” in 1997 (which is often thought as a one-hit wonder). Though during the time they were in their teens and had long blond hair (often mistaken for girls), they had amazing talent, but people were, and still are, focused on the mainstream music. Now they are men; they got married and had kids, but they still sing and perform today, 14 years after. Through the years they have matured physically, mentally, and musically. They are very talented vocally and instrumentally all because they had such love to create music and to practice it.

The Hanson’s have motivated me and I hope people take the time to search them up now because their music is absolutely beautiful and should be heard.

So we go

You know what? We lost, and I’m crying right now, yes, but I’m also SO FREAKING PROUD OF OUR CANUCKS. I probably won’t sleep tonight and will be angsty tomorrow but we were SO. CLOSE!

Classy? You bet. Our fans cheering on Boston even though they won, and cheering on Thomas? You betcha. Good job you guys, what can I say. I bet that Boston fans (well, only some of them, maybe) would have BOOed us out of there if we’d won it in Boston …

I am however, really sad for our team. We were supposed to win, Salo could retire happy, and we could keep both Ehrhoff and Bieksa. I believe in you guys, management guys, to bring our team back in full for next year.

I’m proud that our fans could stay classy as the “enemy” hoisted the cup. If I weren’t fighting through tears, I’d probably be cheering them on, too.

I tip my imaginary hat to the amazing season we have next year, but you know what? I raise my imaginary cup (haha, punny …) to the wonderful one that is ahead of us. We’ve got a great group, everyone … I believe that even though we didn’t win it this year, we’ve got a great chance next time. After all, this is not “our year”, this is our “window”.

Always a proud Canucks fan, signing out.

Pre game well wishes

It can’t be helped I suppose … someone’s gonna get hurt. So, tonight, let’s …

Win it … for the FANS!

Dunno what the lineup’s gonna be tonight … and I sure hope I haven’t forgotten anyone. The only thing I know is … no matter what the result is tonight … I’ll probably be crying
